MakerBot Flexible Filament has a polyester-base with a low melting point, making it easier to extrude. This specialty filament enables you to 3D print parts with functional hinges, joints and shaped parts. This Flexible Filament is nontoxic, does not absorb water and is more tolerant of atmospheric humidity over MakerBot PLA Filament or MakerBot ABS Filament.

Using MakerBot Flexible Filament

Makerbot Flexible Filament melts at a significantly lower temperatures than PLA Filament. It's important to load and unload the MakerBot Flexible Filament at a lower temperature to ensure there aren't problems with the filament melting outside the extruder nozzle.

    Follow the normal Change Filament procedure to load the MakerBot Flexible Filament. To prevent overheating of the MakerBot Flexible Filament inside the extruder, stop the procedure as soon as the previous MakerBot PLA Filament is no longer present.

    Using the MakerBot Replicator 2 display console, reduce the Change Filament target temperature to 120°C and unload the MakerBot Flexible Filament.

    Then, to load MakerBot PLA Filament, increase the temperature to 230°C and load the filament.
